TERRE HAUTE —
James F. Dinkel, 66, of Needham, Mass., and formerly of Terre Haute, passed away June 10, 2013. He was born Nov. 15, 1946, to John and Patricia Dinkel.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Maryanne; daughter, Diane E. Benson and husband David of Needham; brothers, John S. Dinkel of Terre Haute, William A. Dinkel of Bradenton, Fla., and Joseph F. Dinkel of Terre Haute; sisters, Patricia A. Wright of Rosedale, Mary E. Dinkel of Louisville, Ky., and Elizabeth M. Dinkel of Danville, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother in 1988; and his father in 1996.
Jim grew up in a big family typical of the time. He was an altar boy, a paper boy and the occasional mischievous boy, also typical of the time. He was a graduate of Schulte High School before joining the United States Navy, where he served during the Vietnam War. He relocated to Boston, shortly after completing his years of service. There he met his future wife and began his pursuit of a career in sales.
He was an avid golfer and a skilled billiard player. Jim will be remembered as a kind and compassionate man, a gifted storyteller, and a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be sadly missed by all. Until we meet again, we’ll be “sittin’ on the dock of the bay” watching the time roll away.
Expressions of sympathy may be made in Jim's memory to the charity of your choice.
