TERRE HAUTE —
David Dunbar Halsted, 40, of Terre Haute, died on Sunday, June 16, unexpectedly at home. David was born on March 22, 1973, in Detroit, MI, to David and Mary (Short) Halsted. With his family he moved to Terre Haute in 6th grade and graduated from North Vigo High School in 1991 where he won the John Philip Sousa Award for his superior musicianship, cooperation and leadership. David attended ISU’s School of Music for one year where he played with the marching band, jazz band and woodwind ensemble. Following college, he particularly loved playing lead guitar with the Pat Goodwin band. He was a computer whiz and loved movies and reading. His treasured companions were his two cats. David was bright and funny and deeply loving.
David is survived by his parents of Terre Haute; his sister Heather Halsted-Ols (Ron) of Milwaukee, WI; grandmother Jane Halsted of Columbus, NC; aunts Joan Halsted and Marcia Hanks (Larry); uncle George Short (Mary); and several cousins.
There will be a memorial service Friday, June 21, at Callahan and Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th Street, at 5:00 p.m. with the Reverend Dr. Jimmy Moore officiating. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 3:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Terre Haute Humane Society.
