Charles W. ‘Bill’ Wilkes

LINTON — Charles W. “Bill” Wilkes, 79, of Linton, passed away on June 16, 2013, surrounded by his family at Greene County General Hospital in Linton. He was born on April 25, 1934, in Sullivan County, Ind., to Edward and Madge (Hurst) Wilkes. He married Thelma Ruth Keene on April 1, 1960.

Bill was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of Dugger First Baptist Church, Dugger Masonic Lodge 721 Free & Accepted Masons, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, Zorah Shrine Terre Haute, Sullivan and Greene County Shrine, American Legion Post 22 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7118. Bill retired in 1997 with 38 years of service as a superintendent with Rogers Group.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma; two sons, Bill (Karen) Wilkes and Chuck (Jill) Wilkes, both of Linton; one daughter, Tammy (Jeff) Suthard of Linton; six grandchildren, Clint (Brandy) Wilkes, Rich (Dyan) Wilkes, Justin (Jacqi) Suthard, Jennifer Suthard, Trent and Madison Wilkes; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Wilkes of Linton and Ed (Brenda) Wilkes of Dugger; one sister, Sara (Harold) Chaney of Dugger; and several nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; and grandson, Quinton Charles Wilkes.

Funeral services will be at Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel on Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at 11 a.m. with Pastor David Tyra officiating. Friends may call the funeral home today, June 18, 2013, from 5 to 8 p.m. and from 9 p.m. until the time of service on Wednesday. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton with full military honors. The family has requested that memorial contributions be made in memory of Bill to the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children.
