Jerald D. ‘Jerry’ Keller

MARSHALL, Ill. — Jerald D. “Jerry” Keller, 77, of Marshall, passed away at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, in St. Vincent Seton Specialty Hospital at Indianapolis, Ind.

He was a retired real estate salesman and had also been previously employed in the maintenance department at Indiana State University.

He was born June 23, 1936, in South Bend, Ind., the son of Elmer Keller and Goldie M. Michaels Keller. He married DeAnn Forsythe on Aug. 4, 1968, in the South Vigo Congregational Church in rural Vigo County, Ind.

Surviving are his wife, DeAnn; a son, Rob (Julie) Keller of Marshall; a daughter, Denise (Keith) Hoggatt of Marshall; six grandchildren, Jacob Keller and his fiancée, Rebecca Roberts, who are stationed with the Navy at Great Lakes; Alston Keller of Marshall; Kenny Keller of South Bend; Sydney Hoggatt of Marshall; Mollie Hoggatt of Marshall; and Ethan Hoggatt of Marshall; a great-grandchild, Jayden Keller of South Bend; two brothers, Jim (Evelyn) Keller of Plymouth, Ind., and Jack (Sharon) Keller of Inverness, Fla.; and a sister, Janice Wools of Terre Haute, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and their spouses, Bob (Mary) Keller and John (Nancy) Keller; and a sister and her husband, Vivian (John) Jones.

Keller was a member of the Armstrong United Methodist Church. He had participated in the Great Banquet Community and was a devoted participant in the Lunch Buddy Program of Marshall M.A.Y.N.E. He truly loved his family and grandkids and always made a special effort to attend sporting events that his family was participating in.

He served his nation in the United States Army.

Services in honor of his life will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Armstrong United Methodist Church, 18500 N. Armstrong Road, Marshall, Ill., with the Rev. Krista Price officiating. Burial will be in the Forsythe Cemetery with military graveside rites accorded by VFW Post #5975 and Clark County Post #90 of the American Legion. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Armstrong United Methodist Church, and also one hour before services at the church on Sunday. In lieu of flowers it is requested that memorial contributions be made directly to his family, so they may distribute the proceeds to worthwhile organizations, to be determined at a later time.
