Lee H. Mahnesmith, 91, died Sept. 22, 2013, at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was born June 26, 1922, to the late Willis and Ruth (Homsher) Mahnesmith, near Albion.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Marcelle (McGuire) Mahnesmith. They were married July 24, 1943, in Magnolia, Miss., where he was in service in the 99th Artillery Division, as staff sergeant.
Lee is also survived by a son, James and wife Barbara in Carmel; two grand-daughters, Stacey Ferguson and husband Andrew, and Mindy Craig and husband Joshua, all of Westfield; eight great-grandchildren, Ethan, Cole, Reed and Jillian Ferguson, and Harrison, Gibson, Dawson, Anderson Craig.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Timothy Lee Mahnesmith; three sisters and two brothers.
Lee was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II at the Battle of the Bulge, where he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star and other medals. He worked for Liquid Carbonic Corp. for 41 years until his retirement in 1983.
He was a member of the Field and Stream Club, Prime Timers Bowlers at the Bowling Center, and a member of United Methodist Temple.
Visitation is today from 1:30 p.m. until services at 2:30 p.m. in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive, with the Rev. Steve Cain officiating. Burial will be at Sweet Cemetery, in Albion, on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013. at 2 p.m. Online condolences may be left at:
