Violet E. Jefferson, age 61, of Terre Haute, died Sunday, June 9, 2013, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Violet was born Oct. 13, 1951, in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., to Harold and Elizabeth (Lubie) Thompson. She was married to Arnold Jefferson from 1976 until his death in 1998.
Violet was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Terre Haute. She retired from Mosaic, in Terre Haute, where she cared for people with disabilities. Violet was also a certified CPR instructor for the American Red Cross. Her greatest treasure was her family, and she enjoyed her retirement helping to raise her grandchildren.
Violet is survived by her children, Taletha (Patrick) Sowards Sr. and Kelly Jefferson; grandchildren, Olivia, Hannah and Patrick Sowards Jr., fiancé Denis Bacon, all from Terre Haute; mother, Elizabeth Thompson of Wisconsin Rapids; sisters, Marjoie (Milfred) Peckham of Nekoosa, Wis., Mary Benkowski of Sheboygan, Wis., Helen Seeley of Lawerence, Kan.; brother, Robert (Donna) Thompson of Interlachen, Fla.; brother-in-law, William Van Ert; and several stepchildren, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Violet was preceded in death by her sister, Eleanor Van Ert.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 21, 2013, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1845 N. Sixth St., with Bishop Goulding officiating.
