CLINTON — John Raymond Basso, 98, of Clinton, passed away on March 3, 2014, at 8:10 a.m. in his residence. He was born on July 31, 1915, in Wilksberry, Pa., to Cristiano Basso and Antonietta Forte Basso. In 1933 he was on the Clinton High School team that won the football State Championship. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran. He had worked at Dupont and retired from CBS. He was a member of the Jerusalem 99 Free & Accepted Masons, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, and was a 33rd degree Mason.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Thelma Roe Basso; and three sisters, Elda, Catheryn and Clara.
He is survived by his son, Chris and Reba Basso of Channahon, Ill.; three daughters, Toni and Terri Ave of Danville, Ill., Patti and Paul Ingram of Chrisman, Ill., and Rae and David Marietta of Clinton; grandchildren, Gina McIntyre (Donald), Angie Hamilton (Josh), Dominic Costello (Masami), Mario Marietta (fiancé Alixandra Mulligan), Christiana Basso, Andreana Basso, John Basso and Sam Basso.
Private family services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 7, 2014, at Frist Funeral Home, 458 Blackman St., in Clinton. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery.
