Joseph A. Anderson Sr.

TERRE HAUTE — Joseph A. Anderson Sr., 84, of West Terre Haute, passed away at 11:50 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at Davis Gardens Healthcare Center in Terre Haute. He retired from Tredegar Corporation after 41 years of service. He was a production superintendent having worked 31 years at the Terre Haute plant and 10 years at the LaGrange, Ga., plant from where he retired. He was born April 20, 1929, in West Terre Haute, to Joseph Anderson and Lulu Brown Anderson. His wife, Betty Eileen Froschauer Anderson, whom he married on Oct. 14, 1950, at Bethesda United Methodist Church in West Terre Haute preceded him in death on June 28, 2007.

Survivors include their children: two sons, Joseph A. Anderson Jr. and his wife Debbie of Carbon, and Mike Anderson and his wife Lori of West Terre Haute; a daughter and son-in-law, Sara and Paul Boyer of Marshall, Ill.; three sisters, Rosemary Fleener and her husband Richard of Monroeville, Mildred Edwardson and Betty Easthon and her husband Homer, all of Terre Haute; four grandchildren, Brandon Anderson and his wife Jessica, Bryan Anderson, Beth Boyer, and Thomas Fuson and his wife Tanya; seven great-grandchildren, Jasmine, Katie, Heidi, Emma, Lilly, Dio, and Shelton; and several nieces and nephews. He also was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Alice Nickel.

He was a lifetime member of Bethesda United Methodist Church, a member of the West Terre Haute Masonic Lodge No. 687 Free & Accepted Masons, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, and Zorah Shrine. After retiring and moving back to West Terre Haute, he served as a van driver for the Zorah Shrine transporting children to the various Shriner’s Hospitals.

Funeral services for Joe will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2014, in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. 3rd St., in West Terre Haute, with the Rev. Allen Relford officiating. Burial will be in Bethesda Memorial Park. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with a Masonic memorial service at 7 p.m. There also will be visitation from 7 a.m. until service time Wednesday. The family suggests that if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to Zorah Shrine for the children’s transportation division with envelopes available.
