Robert A. Smitley

TERRE HAUTE —  Robert A. “Bob” Smitley, 61, of Terre Haute, and formerly of Robinson, Ill., passed away Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, in Union Hospital surrounded by his family. Bob was born in Paris, Ill., to Joseph “Joe” Smitley and Leota Blankenbaker Smitley on Aug. 8, 1952. Bob was the owner of Mattress Liquidators in Terre Haute and Robinson.

He was a member of The Covenant Church of Jesus Christ in Terre Haute and enjoyed spending time with his family and buying and selling cars.

Bob was preceded in death by his father, Joseph “Joe” Smitley, on Dec. 14, 2012; and a grandson, Justin Rich. Bob is survived by his wife, Rose Foster Smitley, whom he married Aug. 29, 2010, after a 22-year engagement. He also is survived by his mother, Leota Smitley of Robinson. He is survived by three daughters, Felicia Foster of Robinson, Stacey Taylor and her fiancé Seth Cavins of Terre Haute and Hiawtha Taylor-Willis and her husband Trenton of Indianapolis; two brothers, Steve Smitley and his wife Jeanie and Brent Smitley and his wife Diana, both of Robinson. He is survived by his mother in-law and father-in-law, Oscar M. Foster Sr. and Martha S. Foster of Terre Haute; and brothers-in-law, Oscar Foster Jr. of Terre Haute, Randall Foster and his wife Megan of Indianapolis, and Trianito Foster and his wife Belinda of Linton. He also is survived by grandchildren, Blake Hale, Nick Hale, Jayden Wilkins, Johnavon Rich, Jeramiah Cavins, Ty Ray Herron, Tyrese Herron, Taliah Herron; and a step-granddaughter, Trenity Willis. Other survivors are nieces and nephews, Stephanie Strader and her husband Jon, Beth Nelson and her husband Jon, Angie Pfeifer and her husband Tom and Brian Smitley and his wife Crystal; other nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews.

Services are Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at noon EST at The Covenant Church of Jesus Christ, 1108 8th Ave., Terre Haute, IN. 47804. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. EST at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, IN., 47804 who was entrusted with arrangements. Pastor Clarence Debow will be officiating, burial will be at Grandview Cemetery. American Legion Post 972 will be performing military honor.
