Dr. Stephen Charles Nasser

TERRE HAUTE — Sept. 15, 1938 - Jan. 20, 2014

Dr. Stephen Charles Nasser, 75, of Terre Haute, entered the golden gates on Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, at Union Hospital, after a lengthy illness. Dr. Nasser was born in Terre Haute, on Sept. 15, 1938, to N. George Nasser and Ethel Malooley Nasser.

Dr. Nasser was a 1957 graduate of Wiley High School, having played varsity football on the undefeated Red Streaks team. Nasser was a 1961 graduate of Indiana University, located in Bloomington, having obtained a degree in Pre-Medicine. In 1969, Dr. Nasser then attended Lincoln College School of Chiropractic, located in Indianapolis, and obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Biology. In 1970, Dr. Nasser received the degree of Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.).

Memberships include the Eagles Aerie, Shrine Masonic Lodge, Strawberry Cannoneers, Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, St. George Orthodox Church, and numerous professional organizations.

Dr. Nasser, a well-respected chiropractor who served  the Terre Haute and Wabash Valley community for the past 41 years, continued to practice up to the time of his death. He had a vibrant practice and served thousands of patients. Stephen was probably best known for his tardiness at practically every occasion. It became the question of any occasion that Stephen was planning to attend: “I wonder if Stephen will make it before it ends.”  In addition to his penchant for being late, Stephen was a “night owl” who would frequent the local coffee shops at all hours of the night, sometimes playing chess with his cousins and friends well into the morning hours. In addition to being a Chess Master, he loved playing poker and was a regular at “Cuz” Bob Corey’s weekly poker games. With Stephen’s passing, the two will enjoy each other’s company at the poker table once again. He also enjoyed spending holidays with his family and watching football with friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Nancy Bates Nasser and their beloved daughter, Stefani Georgette Nasser, both of Terre Haute. Although he didn’t have any siblings, his numerous cousins were like brothers and sisters to Stephen, including Sandy Malooley Kassis (Bill), Charlene Malooley Wade (Joe), Cathy Malooley Azar (George), Chuck Malooley (Bev), Michael Malooley (Robin), Lorna Malooley (Sergie), Marsha Malooley Irvin (John), Skander Nasser Jr. (Helen), Betty Nasser Slyby (Bill), Joan Mareena Nasser (Bob), George Nasser, Zianna Nasser Alley, Abe Nasser, Betty Nasser, Marianne Nasser, Wanda Nasser, (Dr. Bill), Beverly Nasser Radez, and Dolores Nasser Polifroni (Tony). Also surviving are adopted brothers, William (Bill) Hanna, Guy Kornblum Jr., David McNamer, Dr. Tom Morgan, John McFall, Michael McCormick, Jim O’Grady, Dick McGuire, and Lou Corey; and adopted sister, Marsha Malooley Irvin. He also is survived by his godchildren, Taylor Nasser, Tiah Nasser, and Alexandra Malooley.

Dr. Nasser was predeceased by his parents, N. George and Ethel Nasser; several aunts and uncles and numerous cousins, including, Dr. Bill Nasser, Sergie Malooley, Bobby “Cuz” Corey,  Bobby Nasser, and George T. Nasser.

Honorary pallbearers are Skander Nasser Jr., Dick McGuire, John Irvin, Raoul David, Guy Kornblum Jr., and Kaleel (K.) Ellis. Pallbearers are Skander (Sonny) Nasser III, Dr. Tony K. Nasser, Michael McCormick, David McNamer, John McFall, Dr. Tom Morgan, George Azar, William (Billy Bob) Radez.

Visitation will be at St. George Orthodox Church, 1900 S. 4th St., today, Jan. 23, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. In Stephen’s honor and practice, tardiness will be understood.   Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Paul Matar and the Rev. Dn. Elias Corey presiding. Burial will follow at Highland Lawn Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to St. George Orthodox Church, 1900 S. 4th Street, Terre Haute, IN 47802.

Stephen will be forever remembered for his eccentric, unorthodox, lively way of life, and never ending story telling. He will be sadly missed by all those who loved him and knew him.

May his memory be eternal.
