James Howard Bell II

TERRE HAUTE — James Howard Bell II, 70, of Terre Haute, passed away Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at 2:29 a.m., at Terre Haute Regional Hospital, after a long illness. James was born Sept. 15, 1943, in Clarksville, Tenn., to James Howard Bell Sr. and Georgella Bell.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; and a brother, Clarence Edward Bell.

James married Carolyn on Feb. 25, 1965. James and Carolyn have five children together; Graylon Bell, James Howard Bell III, Fredrick Bell, Angela Bell and Adrianne Jackson and husband James, all of Terre Haute. He also leaves to mourn sisters, Jessie M. Rasor, Margaret L. Haggerty of Terre Haute, Patricia C. Neely and husband Travis of Indianapolis; one brother, John D. Bell and wife Pearl of Terre Haute; 20 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a very large family and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

James graduated from Wiley High School in 1963. He attended Indiana State University. He loved to play basketball. James was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He worked for Eli Lily for 12 years as a chemical operator and later worked at Peabody Coal Mine. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He enjoyed time spent with family.

The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Union Hospital and Terre Haute Regional Hospital for the kindness and caring of James Howard Bell II.

Services will be Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at 1 p.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church, 2701 Poplar St., with visitation from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday. Elder Glenn J. Purnell will be officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972 will conduct graveside military services. Greiner Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.
