SHELBYVILLE, Ill. —
James H. Ralston, 82, of Shelbyville, died at 5:50 a.m. Sunday, June 30, 2013, in Shelbyville Manor. James was born Aug. 17, 1930, in Paris, Ill., the son of Ethan and Edith Hunt Ralston. James married Nancy Louise Bruce on Jan. 12, 1969, in Bloomington, Ill. Together they had managed Index Variety stores in Illinois and Indiana for 25 years and then owned Ralston Variety Store in Watseka for 10 years. After retirement, they contracted with the Army Corps of Engineers as a gate attendant for 14 years. He was a member of the Findlay Christian Church, was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, and had been a member of the Watseka American Legion Post 23.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy of Shelbyville; sons, Steven (Diana) Ralston of Decatur, David (Ann) Ralston of Owensboro, Ky.; stepsons, Danny (Patricia) Weaver of Fayettville, N.C., Ronnie (Sue) Weaver of Sullivan; daughters, Jennifer Kruger of South Bend, Ind., Judith (Jack) Kercheval of Sullivan; stepdaughter, Jannie (Rodney) Wiley of Shelbyville; brothers, Richard Ralston of Oblong, John (Carolyn) Ralston of Marshall; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. CDT today in Camfield Cemetery, in Sullivan, with Pastor Richard Hargrave officiating. Memorials are suggested to Shelby Memorial Hospital Home Health Care. Arrangements by the Reed Funeral Home, Sullivan. Condolences may be sent to the family at:
