MARSHALL, Ill. — MARSHALL, Ill. — Eva Schmidt Blockinger, 94, of Marshall, and formerly of Chicago, was united in Heaven with her beloved husband, the late Glenn L. Blockinger Sr. on June 24, 2013. Eva was born in DeutschBentshek, Hungary, now Romania, on March 26, 1919, to the late John and Eva Lehmann Schmidt. Eva and her parents came to the United States in December of 1920 and settled in Chicago.

Eva attended Loretto Academy for Girls. During World War II she worked as a limo driver for Reed & Co. Eva met her future husband in Chicago and was introduced to him by friends who called him “Jim”. Eva called her husband by that name throughout their 42 years of marriage. They were married on May 2, 1946, and lived in the Chicago area for 37 years. They made their home in Marshall 30 years ago until Glenn Sr.’s death on June 21, 1988. She also was a Girl Scout leader for many years in Chicago.

Eva loved to travel with her husband and her children, camping being the primary method for many years. She traveled to Germany, Hawaii and Alaska in addition to many states in the continental U.S. Besides traveling, Eva enjoyed reading and collecting hats which she wore to church every Sunday. Eva also collected horses and Chinese figurines.

Eva is survived by her daughters, Marla (Roy) Bonus of Naperville, Ill., and Paula (Fred) Schwarz of Littleton, Colo.; and her son, Glenn (Patricia) Blockinger Jr. of Leland, Ill. Eva was a grandmother to Marlissa (Marcin) Tutaj, Jonathon Bonus, Steven Schwarz, Robert (Brooke) Blockinger, and Sarah Blockinger. She also was a great-grandmother to Roman Tutaj, Chandler and Morgan Schwarz-Shoaf, Collin and Bella Blockinger. She also is survived by her sister-in-law, Irmagene (Ray) Blockinger Nelson of West Union, Ill.; and 10 nieces and nephews. Eva was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Marian (the late Charles) Marshall; a great-granddaughter, Kirsten Blockinger; her in-laws, Everett and Martha Jane Spangler Blockinger; and her sister-in-law, Imogene Blockinger Brown.
