Raymond Theodore ‘Ted’ Prose

TERRE HAUTE — Unexpectedly, yet peacefully, June 30, 2014, Raymond Theodore “Ted” Prose passed away at the age of 69. He was on his way home from his beloved island in Lake of the Woods, Ontario, Canada.

Although he was a world traveler, he resided in Terre Haute with his wife Eileen Kazmer Prose, formerly of East Chicago. His children include Kelli (and Richard) Cole, Sullivan; Michelle Prose, Terre Haute; Raymond Christopher “Chris” (and Nicole) Prose, Muncie; Rob (and Lori) Lantz, Florida; his grandchildren, Arika (and Matthew) Nicol, Sullivan; Noah Prose, Terre Haute; Morgan, Tyler and Nathan Prose, and Zach and Dillon Rucker, Muncie; and his great-grandchildren,  Madison and Rilie Nicol, Sullivan; his sister, Patricia “Patty” (and Rob) Weathers, Arizona; and other extended family. He also claimed some special people as his Greek family: Elias and Dimitra Agrigiannis, Koropi; Giorgos “George” and Petroula Vegiris, Thessaloniki; Takis and Dimitra Stamatika, Thessaloniki; as well as “children” Giorgos “George” Agrigiannis, Thessaloniki; Kostas Agrigiannis, Volos; and Katerina Stamitika Katsarou, Thessaloniki. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Charles and Betty Rose Steele Prose; sister, Michelle Prose Brown; and Greek “child,” Thanos Lados.

Ted was born Dec. 26, 1944, in Sullivan. He grew up participating in Scouts and always excelled at math. He graduated from the Sullivan High School class of 1962. He served on the planning committee for their 50th year class reunion a few years ago, as well as the upcoming 70th birthday celebration for the class.

Always present at work with his grandfather and later his father, he started his knowledge base in construction at a very young age. His official career started at Prose Electric April 1, 1965. After closing, he switched to Sandborn Electric in 1973, moving to AAA Electric in 1978 and finally at Evan & Ryan (most notably at DADC-Sony) in 1995. He retired April 22, 2011, with better than 47 years with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 725, out of Terre Haute. He was also a member of the National Electrical Contractors Association.

He was a lifelong member of the Sullivan Elks and Sullivan Masonic Lodge. He was active locally with the German Oberlandler Club as president and festival chairman at different times, the Hungarian Lodge as past president, as well as the vast amount of charities Eileen convinced him to assist. In Canada, he was a member of the Sioux Narrows Men’s Club, treasurer of the White Moose Cottage Owners’ Association and Nestor Falls/Sioux Narrows Activity Center. His mission trips furthered his travels to Arizona, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Kenya and Mexico, attempting to see how many churches he could construct throughout the world.

He enjoyed auctions, whether online or in person, antiquing, and of course, lending his vast knowledge of the trades to whomever had a project going. He also loved to learn something new, as in harvesting olives and grapes to make olive oil and tsipero (homemade ouzo). He collected duck decoys and calls, antique oil lamps, and John Wayne and Mickey Mouse paraphernalia.

Please come celebrate Ted’s life with family and friends. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 7, 2014, at Banks and Brust Funeral Home, 400 N. Court Street, in Sullivan, with a Masonic service beginning at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume at 9 a.m. Tuesday morning, with the funeral beginning at 10 a.m. Graveside services will follow at Calvary Cemetery, 4227 Wabash Ave., IN Terre Haute. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Swope Art Museum, 25 S. Seventh St., Terre Haute, Ind., or a charity of choice.
