Steven Lee Pugh

TERRE HAUTE — Steven Lee Pugh passed away Sunday, June 8, 2014, at St. Vincent Seton Specialty Hospital in Indianapolis, after a long and courageous battle from complications of diabetes and renal failure. He was born Dec. 18, 1961, in Terre Haute, to Delmar L. Pugh and Rita J. (Flynn) Pugh.

Steven is survived by his father, Delmar Pugh of Pimento; his sister, Sheryl Keyes (husband Mike) of Brazil; his nephews, Jason Keyes (wife Jill) of Slidell, La., and Matt Keyes (Lacey Bowman); niece, Katie Keyes (R.J. Amberger) of Brazil; great-niece, Madison Keyes and great-nephew, Caden Keyes, both of Slidell. He was known as “Uncle Stevie” to many. He also is survived by many loving friends and family members who mourn his passing.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Rita J. Flynn Pugh; stepmother, Judith Ward Pugh; paternal grandparents, Floyd and Faye Pugh; and maternal grandparents, Ernest and Mary Flynn.

Steve graduated from Terre Haute South Vigo High School in 1980 and was active in VICA. He later attended Indiana State University. He was previously employed at Burger Chef, Thompson’s Honda of Terre Haute in the parts/service department, and currently at Advics of North America as a quality control inspector.

Steve enjoyed motor-cross racing, working on dirt bikes, fishing, hunting and the occasional game of golf, even with his “shank-o-potamus” father. Steve also enjoyed tinkering around in the garage and sharing stories from his Canadian fishing trip. He loved being surrounded by friends and family and celebrating life with them and was always good for a laugh. Steve shared his love of motor-cross racing with many and made lasting friendships with that bond.

Steve was a fighter until the very end. He showed his family the true meaning of strength, grace and peace. Steve was appreciative of the outstanding care he received by the staff at Seton Hospital, Union Hospital and Exceptional Living Center.

Cremation was chosen and internment will be at Grandview Cemetery in Terre Haute, at a later time. Family and friends are encouraged to share memories of Steve at the memorial service on Friday, June 13, 2014, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at DeBaun Funeral Home, 85 E. Springhill Drive, in Terre Haute. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that you make contributions to the charity of your choice, to the American Diabetes, American Heart Association or a humane society of your choice in his honor.
