Ellen Swaim Phillips, 76, of Rosedale, died at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, in her residence. She was born June 25, 1936, in Bloomingdale, Ind., to the late Donald B. Swaim and Sarah E. Pyle Swaim. She was a registered nurse from 1959 to 1972 at Union Hospital of Terre Haute, and Hercules of Terre Haute from 1972 to 1994 when she retired.
She was preceded in by her husband of 24 years, John Milton Phillips, who she married April of 1981 and died May 5, 2005.
Survivors include one brother, Dale Swaim of Lafayette; one sister, Betty Lewis of Rockville; two stepgrandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Sue Busenbark in September 2012.
She was a 1954 graduate of Bloomingdale High School and a 1957 graduate of Lake View Hospital School of Nursing in Danville, Ill. She was a member of Immanuel Southern Baptist Church.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at Immanuel Southern Baptist Church, 3239 West U.S. 36, Rockville, with the Rev. Mark Houvenagle officiating. Burial will follow services at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in North Terre Haute. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church.
