TERRE HAUTE —
Raymond J. Strange, 93, of Terre Haute, died Saturday morning, December 1, 2012 in his residence. He retired as Vice President of International Regions for Brinks, Inc. Ray was born December 30, 1918 in Champaign, Illinois, to Harold Strange and Pearl Latrella Strange.
Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Mary Bruno Drake Strange; a step-daughter, Roberta Cordell and her husband, Gary, of Terre Haute; three step-sons, Anthony Drake and his wife, Carrol, Larry Drake and his wife, Pam, and Paul Drake and his wife, Nancy, all of Terre Haute; several step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Christina A. Evola Strange; his daughter, Angela Rae Strange; a step-son, John Drake; three brothers; and a sister.
Ray was a graduate of Garfield High School and was a veteran of World War II having served as a B-17 Pilot with the U.S. Army Air Forces in Europe. He had flown nearly 14 missions before being shot down and was the recipient of three Purple Hearts. Ray opened the 1st Brink’s office in Terre Haute. He was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church and was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 12:05 p.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2012 in St. Benedict Catholic Church, 111 South 9th Street, with Father Ed Goldbach, OFM Conv. and Father David Hellmann officiating. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery with Military Graveside Honors provided by VFW Post #972. Visitation is scheduled prior to services on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon in the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street.
