TERRE HAUTE —
Sally C. Smith, 80, of Terre Haute, passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2014, in her residence. She was born April 21, 1934, in Terre Haute, to Bernard Dickerson and Bertha Neice Dickerson. She married Gilbert E. Smith Sr. in 1953. She worked for several years at the Wabash Valley Senior Center as a receptionist. She was a wonderful mother, a great homemaker, and an awesome cook. Her house was always open to any young person in need of a safe haven.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and one sister, Mary Lou Coon. She is survived by her three children, Gilbert E. Smith Jr., Michael Smith, and Kim Artz and her husband Warren; three other very special children, Robert Smith and his wife Pam, Loretta Snedeker and her husband Jim, and Tony Gregerson; grandchildren, Bobby Joe Cooper, Samantha Sisk, Matthew Smith, Brandon Artz, Daniel Poorman, Julie Joseph, Damon Smith, and Clint Smith; great-grandchildren, Chloe Cooper, Paityn Cooper, Prestyn Nesbit, Brayden Smith, and Brianna Smith; and several other children. She also is survived by one sister, Barbara Champion and her husband Thomas; two nieces, Janis LaPlant and Bernice Coon; one nephew, Thomas Champion; and her two wonderful caregivers, Jane Klaubo and Betty Young, who traveled on her final journey with her for the last couple of years. Sally also leaves behind several friends, family, and loved ones.
Visitation for Sally will be held Monday, July 7, 2014, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, in Terre Haute. Graveside service will follow immediately concluding visitation at Highland Lawn Cemetery in the chapel with Father Steve Giannini officiating. Online condolences may be made at:
