Morgan Montgomery Johnson was the only son of Ann Johnson-Smith and Keith Johnson, born Jan. 1, 1984, in Dallas. Morgan departed this life at the tender age of 27, on May 18, 2011. He had been missing for two years. His remains were recovered Friday, July 19, 2013, in Plainfield.
Morgan was raised and attended school in Terre Haute. He was baptized at age 11 at Berean Baptist Church. Later, he served as youth minister for a short while at the church. He earned his realtors license. He loved music, he sang in choirs, played the clarinet, piano and guitar, and he was an accomplished tennis player. He was a 2002 honors graduate of Terre Haute North High School. Morgan later move to Indianapolis, where he became a member of Saint John’s Missionary Baptist Church. There he sang in two choirs and aided young people in coming to Jesus Christ and was a part of various church groups. His final days were spent in Plainfield, where he worked and lived.
Morgan is survived by his mother, Ann Smith and stepfather, Carl Smith; father, Keith Johnson; sister, Erica Johnson; and step-brothers, Carl Smith Jr. and Jarrod Smith. Surviving aunts and uncles (Ann’s siblings) are, Ralph Nash (Merry), Lorraine Strong (Amos), Ernest Whitehead (Nancy), Janice Williams, Joe Whitehead, Billie Jean Dean (Greg), John Whitehead (Selena), and Mark Whitehead (Ester). Surviving Johnson aunts and uncles are, Sterling Johnson III, Janice Johnson, Michael Johnson, Alan Johnson, Thomas Johnson (Christy), Alice Smith, Baron Moss, Sundii Phillips, and Tangy Hawkins; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A celebration of life service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013, at Berean Baptist Church, 6770 N. Clinton St., in Terre Haute, with Pastor Larry Lilly officiating.
