Cardia Lamont Smith

TERRE HAUTE — Cardia Lamont Smith, 55, of Columbia, Tenn., and formerly of Terre Haute, Ind., passed away at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia, on July 18, 2013. Mr. Smith was born on Oct. 13, 1957, in Terre Haute, to the late William Davis and the late Nancy Smith Dunn.

He graduated from Terre Haute South Vigo High School and attended Vincennes University for two years and studied screen printing. By trade, he was a carpenter with Jones and Jones Construction of Madison, Ga., for 22 years until moving to Columbia, where he continued to work in the construction industry.

He married Georgett Bean on Feb. 10, 1990, who survives him, and they raised a family together. Cardia loved to fish and to barbecue for his family. His family recalls two of his favorite sayings as being: “It’s Hard To Be Me” and “It Ain’t No Fun When The Rabbit’s Got The Gun.” Cardia was an avid NASCAR fan, always pulling for Tony Stewart to take the checkered flag. He was of the Church of God faith.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Smith is survived by his children, Cardia Lamont Smith II, William Lawrence (Melissa) Martin II, and Dewayne Lewis (Monica) Martin; grandchildren, Nylashia Fuller, Kortney Martin, Alana Martin, Dewayne Lewis Odell Martin II, Kaelynn Nichole Fadiya Martin, Jordan Skye Hadiya Martin, Abrianna Willa’ Marie Amina Martin, Jeramyah Marshall and Sean Marshall; stepfather, John D., Beckles; siblings, Vanessa Garrett, Timothy Dunn and Sylvester (Philana) Dunn; sister-in-law, Juanita (Dean) Russell; aunt, Stella Fairrow; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, plants, and fish.
