MARTINSVILLE, Ill. — Norma J. Stortzum, 82, of Martinsville, Ill., passed away Thursday, July 11, 2013 at Union Hospital. Norma was the daughter of George and Mildred Comer Stortzum. She was born Sept. 10, 1930 in Robinson, Ill.
Her father owned Stortzum grocery store in Martinsville until his death. Norma worked in her father’s store during high school. She graduated from Martinsville High School in 1948. The saying by her high school graduation picture reads: “She is short, she is wise, she’s a terror for her size.”
She went to work for Marathon Oil Company after high school and retired after 34 years. During that time, she lived in Terre Haute, Robinson, Findlay, Ohio, Houston and Tulsa, Okla. She loved playing bridge and was a member of Women’s Champion Bowling Team. Her team traveled all over the United States, playing in tournaments. After retirement, she returned to Martinsville to live.
Norma was a member of the United Methodist Church in Martinsville, where as a youth, she played the piano and sang in the choir.
She was preceded in death by her father, mother, brother, Ted, and step-father, Russell Germain. She leaves cousins, friends and her beloved cat, Sam.

Funeral services for Norma will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 15, 2013 at the Greenwell Funeral Home, Martinsville, with the Rev. John Gartelos officiating. Burial will follow at the Ridgelawn Cemetery in Martinsville. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
