MARSHALL, ILL. —
MARSHALL, Ill. — Daniel A. Johnson, 80, of Marshall, passed away at 1:17 p.m. on Jan. 30, 2014, at Paris Health Care Facility, in Paris. He was born July 22, 1933, in Garden City, Mich., the son of George and Mildred Johnson. He married Jeanne J. Klembecki on April 30, 1955, in St. Norbert’s Catholic Church, in Inkster, Mich.
Daniel was a U.S. Marine, 1951-1955. He served in the Korean War, and was a decorated soldier. He retired from the United States Federal Bureau of Prisons in 1991. He was a life member of American Legion Post 90, and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5975, in Marshall.
He and his wife loved traveling, camping and sight seeing. They drove to almost every state in the United States after he retired, including a trip to Hawaii. He truly loved his family and grandkids, and always made a special effort to attend sporting events in which his family was participating.
Daniel is survived by his wife, Jeanne; sons, Tim (Sue) Johnson of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., William (Beth) Johnson of Belleville, Mich., and Chris Johnson of Poway, Calif.; a daughter, Patti (Brian) Shaffner of Marshall; nine grandchildren, Michael, Holly, Terry, Abby, Kaitlyn, Shane, Chole Johnson, Savannah and Macy Shaffner; one great-granddaughter, Alyssa Johnson; a brother, Harold (Julie) Bergquist; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he also was preceded in death by two sons, Terry and Daniel Johnson; and two brothers, Terry Johnson and Randy Bergquist.
Daniel was honored with a small family service on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014. He was laid to rest with graveside military rites at Cadillac Memorial Gardens, in Westland, Mich. Contributions may be made in his honor to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS, 66675-8517.
