Robert Dean Strole

NEW GOSHEN — NEW GOSHEN — Robert Dean Strole, 71, of New Goshen, passed away peacefully at 5:45 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, in his residence after a long struggle with multiple myeloma. He was a farmer and had owned and operated his grain and holstein dairy cattle farm, along with his wife Phyllis, in the New Goshen area for many years. He was born Aug. 1, 1942, in New Goshen, to Wayne John Strole and Wilma E. Richardson Strole.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Phyllis Kay Hargis Strole, whom he married on Aug. 26, 1960, in West Terre Haute; three daughters, Susan Strole-Kos and her husband Dan, Rita Sivertson and her husband Robert, and Deana Chrisman and her husband Doug all of New Goshen; four sisters, Leah VanHoutin, Ruth McCleary, Charity Evinger, and Doris Flowers; three sisters-in-law, Lucille Strole, Mary Strole, and Lois Strole; six grandchildren, Whitney Kos-Boyce, Tanner Kos, Robert Hudgens, Frank Hudgens, McKenzie Chrisman, and Madison Chrisman; a great-granddaughter, Mikayla Hudgens; many nieces and nephews including a special nephew, Steve Strole; and part of the Friday night gang Jury and Linda Vaira and Butch and Linda Hargis, whom the family would like to give a special thanks. He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers, Donald, John, Ray, Dale, Ronald, Marvin, and Larry; and one sister, Irene Preston.

He was a member of the West Terre Haute Masonic Lodge 687 Free & Accepted Masons, the Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, and Zorah Shrine. He had been a longtime supporter of 4-H and he was a member of the Vigo County Farm Bureau Association. He enjoyed spending time in Florida and picking oranges at the grove with the Florida friends who he thought so much of.

A graveside service which all friends and family are welcome will be 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, in Brick Church Cemetery, which is located north of U.S. 150 on Rangeline Road in New Goshen, with the Rev. Vicky Eaton officiating. After the services, family and friends are also welcome to gather at his beloved farm home place.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the Wabash Valley Visiting Nurses Association and Heart To Heart Hospice. The family also suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner’s Crippled Children Hospitals, or Wabash Valley Visiting Nurses Association or Heart to Heart Hospice. Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, in West Terre Haute, assisted with arrangements.
