Dean F. Fasig

CASEY, Ill. — Dean F. Fasig, 86, of Casey, passed away at 8 p.m. on Monday, June 23, 2014, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. He was born April 12, 1928, in Martinsville, Ill., the son of Edgar Fasig and Nellie Belle Ennis Fasig. On Nov. 9, 1956, he married Dottie Perisho Huddlestun in Casey. She passed away on April 19, 2001.  He later married Carolyn Hawker Lansbery on Oct. 16, 2005, in Hazel Dell, Ill.  

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Fasig of Casey; sisters, Margaret Bennett and Mary Dillier of Casey; stepdaughters, Aileen Shiels and husband Robert of Robinson, Ill., and Marsha Dillman and husband David of Hazel Dell; stepsons, Randy Lansbery of Hazel Dell, and Mark Lansbery and wife Loretta of Oblong, Ill.; stepgrandchildren, Penny Ward, Misty Barthelme, Robin (Lloyd) Kemper, Shelly Musgrave and Jay Musgrave; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; seven stepgreat-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Louis Fasig; wife, Dottie Fasig; brothers, Paul, Bill and Claude Fasig; sister, Eloise Ramsey; and stepgranddaughter, Pam Bright.  

Dean was a 1946 graduate of Casey High School. He and Dottie owned and operated a grocery store on Washington Street for many years. Dean later retired from the U.S. Postal Service after a career that spanned 30 years as a rural mail carrier, an officer in charge in Greenup, Ill., and Superintendent of Postal Operation in Casey. He was a U.S. Air Force sergeant, serving his country from 1946 to 1949.  He was a member of the Casey Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5762 and Hazel Dell American Legion Post 1230. Dean was a member of Kimlin Presbyterian Church in rural Casey. Dean’s favorite hobbies were mowing and mushroom hunting. He mowed for his sister, Mary, for many years and traveled to other states to hunt for mushrooms. One year Dean and John Glidewell found black mushrooms in the snow in Kentucky.     

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. CDT on Saturday, June 28, 2014, at Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., in Casey, with Brother Ivan Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Street Cemetery, in Casey, with graveside military rites by the Casey VFW and Hazel Dell American Legion. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home,
