Terry David Bauer Sr.

TERRE HAUTE — Terry David Bauer Sr., passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2014, in his home. He was born in Terre Haute, on Aug. 21, 1952, to Anton Bauer Jr. and Virginia Ellinger Bauer. He retired from the Terre Haute Police Department in 2011 after 32 years of service, where he held the positions of sergeant and shift commander; and he was a member of the Army National Guard for over 16 years. As a young man, he worked for Chesty’s and United Gas Station before joining the Terre Haute Police Department.  

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Penny Ellinger Bauer of Terre Haute; three children, Terry David Bauer Jr. and his wife Tori, Kimberly Cunningham and partner William Waggoner Jr., all of Terre Haute, and Nathan Cunningham and partner Natasha Compton of Hymera; six grandchildren, Zachary Bauer, Austin Bauer, Bryson Bauer, Kenneth Ridge and Donald “Monkey” Price II, all of Terre Haute, and Branson Cunningham of Paris, Ill.; two brothers, Anton “Tony” Bauer III and his wife Tina of Terre Haute and Timothy Bauer of Dennison, Ill.; two sisters, Belle Brandt and partner Chuck Handly, and Ginger Walker and husband Robert, both of Terre Haute; several nieces and nephews; and good friends, Sharon Bauer and Eva Smith.

He enjoyed fishing, computers and spending time with his grandchildren. He was  devoted son, husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed spending his mornings on the back porch, drinking coffee, and he loved his dog, Missy. Terry was known for his weird sense of humor and was loved and will be dearly missed by his friends, family and brothers of the THPD.

Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, May 22, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, in Terre Haute. Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 21, 2014, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral Home. Terre Haute Police Department will serve as Honor Guard during visitation, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972 will conduct military graveside services. Pastor Jeff Bridgewater will be officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to The Soggy Donut Fund, a relief fund set up for officers in need, through the Terre Haute Police Department, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
