Dorothy M. Coleman

CLINTON — — Dorothy M. Coleman, of Clinton, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. She was born in Mecca, on March 14, 1928, to the late William Bartley and Alice Fellows Bartley. Dorothy graduated from Mecca High School in 1946, and attended Air Traffic Control School in Kansas. She worked for several years for Spendal Packing Co. before her retirement. In 1947 she married Otis A. Coleman Jr. of Rosedale, who preceded her in death.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she also was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Karen Lynn Brattain and Amanda Cunningham; one son, Michael Coleman; and her sister, Doris Wills.

She is survived by her seven loving children, Toni (Frank) Day of Quebec, Tenn., Karen (Hank) Hammond of The Villages, Fla., Otis (Kim) Coleman of Lowell, David (Kim) Coleman of Knoxville, Tenn., Dennis (Libbie) Coleman of Clinton, Kenny Coleman of Knoxville, and Abby (John) Lindsey of Clinton; her brother, Bob Bartley (Eris) of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Rusty Brattain and Jackie Holder, both of Sparta, Tenn., Brad Mansinne of Montezuma, Kari Hutson and Denny Coleman, both of Clinton, Ashley Coleman of Terre Haute, Jessica and Meghan Coleman, both of Clinton, Adam Coleman of Knoxville, Tosha Moersdorf of Lenoir City, Tenn., Mathew Coleman of Frankfort, Zeth, Sydney and Noah Lindsey, all of Clinton, and Marilyn Abby Jean Coleman of Knoxville; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Her greatest love was her children and grandchildren. Granny Dorothy was known for her generosity to her family and always having an open door and open heart. She loved without judgment or prejudice. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

Visitation for Dorothy will be Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Frist Funeral Home, 458 Blackman St., with services at 6 p.m. The Rev. Dan King will officiate. Cremation has been chosen, with burial to follow at a later date, at Roselawn Memorial Park, in Terre Haute. Memorial contributions can be made to the COPD Foundation.
