Ralph H. Morgan

TERRE HAUTE — Ralph H. Morgan, 89, of Terre Haute, passed away Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, at his residence. He was born in Vigo County on July 26, 1924; he was the son of Harvey and Louetta (Hall) Morgan. He retired as an executive officer of L. E. Myers, an international electric utilities contractor and was locally known as a successful farmer.  

He was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Doris J. Morgan; his brothers, Dick Morgan, Fred Morgan (Jo Ellen), and Earl Morgan (Lois); and his parents. He also was preceded in death by his daughter, Diane Jacobus; and his grandson, Jeremiah Jacobus.

He is survived by his children, Charles Jacobus (Heidi) of Ann Arbor, Mich., George Buhai-Jacobus (Liz) of Oak Park, Ill., and Geraldine Terry (Tom) of Grand Rapids, Mich.; his grandchildren, Monica and Patrick Jacobus, Sarah and Samantha Buhai-Jacobus, and Maxine Terry; sister-in-law, Lois Morgan Zukunft (Carl); nieces and nephews, Tim Morgan (Barbara), Lou Ann Pence (Donnie), Cindy Morgan, Scott Morgan, and Carolyn Morgan; and grandnieces and grandnephews, Katherine Morgan, Courtney and Lucas Morgan, Sarah and Nathan Pence; and great-nieces and great-nephews, Elizabeth, Mallory, Evan, Zachary, Caleb, Lexi, Andrew, and Samantha. His special friends are Monte and Nancy Watts. The family wishes to acknowledge the caregivers, Connie Roberts, Amy Allgire, Mark Pritchard, Heather Barnhart, Kathy Dickerson, Lynlie Pearson, and Vanessa Foote.

He was a 1942 graduate of Prairie Creek High School and attended Purdue University, where he studied mechanical engineering. He also was known as an originating and lifetime member of the Wabash Western Riders Club, a volunteer fireman, a Mason, and a member of the Prairieton United Methodist Church. He was a pilot. He was an enthusiast for speed, driving Jaguars, Hudsons and well over 40 other vehicles, and he loved his quarterhorse, “Gray Dog.” He loved to charm his grandchildren by giving tractor rides and feeding the cows. For Paul Thompson Farms, he developed tens of thousands of acres of swampland in the South and Indiana into productive ranch and farmland. As vice president for L. E. Myers he managed a fleet of thousands of vehicles and machinery; he was instrumental in building world-changing electric power lines in northern Canada, Saudi Arabia, South America, and other locations. Upon leaving L. E. Myers he returned to Terre Haute and his roots at the farm. He was known for his integrity, gentleness, and cherishing his wife, Doris. He will be greatly missed.

The memorial service will be Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, at 11 a.m. at DeBaun-Springhill Chapel/Funeral Home, 85 E. Springhill Drive. Family and friends are welcome to come and share prior to the service at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Duane Caperton will officiate. In honor of Ralph's wishes he will be cremated; burial will be scheduled at a future date. In lieu of flowers, Ralph requested memorial contribution to be made to Prairieton United Methodist Church, PO Box 67, Prairieton, IN 47870.
