Nicholas Rocco Sereno

Nicholas Rocco Sereno, 80, of West Terre Haute, passed away at 6 p.m. Monday, July 29, 2013, in Union Hospital. He was born Aug. 21, 1932, in Terre Haute, to John Sereno and Mary Stella Caruso Sereno.

He retired as a police officer from the Terre Haute Police Department after over 20 years of service. He had worked security at the former Great Scott Supermarkets in Terre Haute during his career with the police department and continued there after his retirement. He also had owned and operated the Couch Potato Video/Nick’s Video Store, in West Terre Haute, for many years.

His wife, Bernetta M. Barnes Sereno, whom he married on Dec. 29, 1951, preceded him in death on Nov. 25, 2010. Survivors include three daughters, Carla Bobbitt and her husband John of Terre Haute, Christine LeBrun, and Cindy Green and her husband Carl, all of West Terre Haute; a brother-in-law, Robert Rosch of Terre Haute, two sisters-in-law, Shirley Barnes of Texas and Emojean Barnes of West Terre Haute; nine grandchildren, John Bobbitt II, Nicholas Bobbitt and his wife Heather, Nicole Hamburg, Rocky Hamburg, Lance LeBrun and his wife Rachelle, Jessica LeBrun, Matthew Green, Taylor Green, and Tori Green; nine great-grandchildren, Macen, Brilei, Bristol, Skyler, Kellsie, Tiffanee, Grace, Emma, and Robert. He also was preceded in death by his grandson, Lucas Green, on Dec. 31, 2012; a sister, Francesca Rosch; three brothers, Joseph “Pep” Sereno, Carlo Sereno, and Mike Sereno.

Nick also served as a Vigo County Councilman, and he was the founder/charter member of the Francis Vigo Italian American Club. He was and will be remembered as a loving, charismatic son, husband, father, brother, and grandfather/Pappy. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Funeral services for Nick will be held together with his daughter, Cheryl L. Hamburg, who passed away two days after him on Wednesday, July 31, 2013. The service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5, 2013, in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. Third St., in West Terre Haute, with Pastor Joe Sereno officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, with burial rites provided by the Terre Haute Police Department Honor Guard. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Monday.
