Carole Joann Marion

TERRE HAUTE — Carole Joann Marion, 74, of West Terre Haute, passed away at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, June 30, 2013, in Southwood Healthcare Center, in Terre Haute. She retired from St.-Mary-of-the-Woods College, where she worked many years in the Masters of Pastoral Theology Department. She also had been a school bus driver for the Vigo County School Corporation for many years, as well as being a farm wife for many years, where she helped with the daily operation of the family farm. She was born Dec. 3, 1938, in Shirkieville, to Nick Vinardi and Susie Sekerak Vinardi.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Maynard “Babe” Marion, whom she married Jan. 21, 1961, in Clinton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberly and Mike Malott of Middleburg, Fla., and Analiza and John Butterman of West Terre Haute; two sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy and Tamara Marion, and Leonard and Cassie Marion, all of West Terre Haute; two brothers, Larry Vinardi and Nick Vinardi, both of West Terre Haute; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Darlene “Sandy” Dean and Darrell Dean of New Goshen; 11 grandchildren, Bruce Malott, Olivia and Spenser Butterman, Matthew, Megan, and Michaela Marion, and Desiree, Courtney, Nathan, Karlie, and Eli Marion; a special friend, Donna Downey; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father; and a son, Mark Marion.

Carole was a member of the St.-Mary-of-the-Woods Village Catholic Church, the Vigo County Farm Bureau Association, where she served on the board for 25 years, the West Vigo – New Goshen Lions Club, and she had been a 4-H leader for many years for the kids involved in 4-H in Fayette Township and their club the “Fayette Farmalls”. She enjoyed making ceramics, which she did for many years, and she always looked forward to the Covered Bridge Festival every year, where she had a booth for her ceramics at both Bridgeton and Mansfield. She also enjoyed gardening and playing Bunko.  

Mass of Chritian burial will be 1 p.m. Friday, in the Village Church with Father Bernie LaMontagne officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until service time Friday, in the church. The family kindly suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary’s Village Church, with envelopes available in the church. Fitzpatrick Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.
