ROCKVILLE — Mary Lou Thomas, 71, of Rockville, died Sunday, June 9, 2013, in her residence. She was a retired administrative assistant for the Terre Haute Sub Station Police Department and was manager of Burnett Manor Apartments, in Rockville. She was born May 29, 1942, in Clinton, to the late Carl E. Woodard and Gracie Snodgrass Woodard. She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Dale Thomas.
Survivors include two sons, Randy (Tammy) Thomas of Bloomingdale, and Tim Thomas of Bloomington, Ill.; one daughter, Terry (Jim) Ross of Bloomington, Ind.; two brothers, Charles E. (Donna) Woodard, and Larry J. (Gail) Woodard, all of Rockville; one sister, Martha Jean Alexander of Brazil; five grandchildren, Tyler and Rebecca Thomas of Avon, Ezra Ross of Bloomington, Ind., Ethan and Madeline Thomas of Bloomington, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was a 1960 graduate of Rockville High School and a graduate of Ivy Tech Community College. She was baptized at the Hollandsburg Baptist Church. She was a member of American Legion Fellenzer Post 48 Auxiliary; she was founder of the Waiting Wives-Support Group through the U.S. Army and now in all branches of the military. She was invited to Washington, DC because of her work with this group. She loved to crochet, garden, watch birds, loved technology and genealogy. She was known as an arm chair traveler.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, June 13, 2013, in Gooch Funeral Home, 112 W. Howard St., with the Rev. Bob Kumpf officiating. Burial will follow in Portland Mills Cemetery, in Parke County.
