MARSHALL, Ill. —
MARSHALL, ILL. — Alma Lea Hamilton, 93, of Martinsville, Ill., passed away at 1:25 a.m. on Friday, July 19, 2013, at Burnsides Community Health Center. She was born on Oct. 4, 1919, in Marshall, Ill., the daughter of Walter Henry Hutchinson and Laura Jane Low Hutchinson. On Nov. 20, 1941, she married Howard Leroy Hamilton in Clinton, Mo. He passed away on October 29, 1980.
Survivors include her two daughters, Nancy Crumrin and husband Jack of Martinsville, and Cindy Becker and husband Barry of Middletown; grandchildren, Daryn Crumrin and wife Paula of Decatur, Ala., Karyn Paulsen and husband Justin of Martinsville, Amy Daugherty and husband Brandon of West Union, Ill., Lori Dickerson and husband Michael of Middletown, Angie Price and husband Jeremy of New Castle, Jordan Becker and fiancée Kristi Cronk of Indianapolis, and Chad Becker of Indianapolis; great-grandchildren, Allison, Elizabeth and Samantha Crumrin, Kaylee and Dylan Daugherty, Cayle Price, twins, Mitchell and Jaylee Dickerson; and another great-grandchild expected in November.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Alma Lea was a lifelong resident of the Martinsville area. She was a graduate of Marshall High School and Indiana State University. For many years, Howard and Alma Lea owned the Martinsville Planet, Westville Review and Casey Daily Reporter newspapers, as well as Golden Rule Printers in Terre Haute.
Mrs. Hamilton was a business teacher for the Martinsville School District. She was a member of the Martinsville Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school, and she previously served as the Martinsville Township supervisor. She was a member of the Martinsville Women’s Club and the Martinsville Retired Teachers Association, and a member for more than 60 years at the Martinsville American Legion Auxiliary.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 21, 2013, at the Greenwell Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Gartelos officiating. Burial will follow in the Ridgelawn Cemetery, Martinsville. Visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday before the service at the funeral home, 30 N. Washington St., Martinsville.
