Clarence E. Roush

Clarence E. Roush, 82, of New Goshen, passed away unexpectedly at 12:08 a.m. Thursday, April 17, 2014, in Union Hospital’s emergency room. He was born March 22, 1932, in New Goshen, to Bert A. Roush and Hazel Dolly Baker Roush. During the Korean War he served as a tank driver for the US Army. He retired from Pfizer. After retirement, he and his late wife owned and operated “The Pepper People.”   

Survivors include his son, Bob and wife Kathy Roush of West Terre Haute; five grandchildren, Davey Pearman of Terre Haute, Josh Pearman and wife Tiffany of Indianapolis, Jeremy Roush and wife Monica of West Terre Haute, Brad Roush and wife Mandy of Clinton, and Rob Roush and wife Alisha of West Terre Haute; nine great-grandchildren, Gabe Roush, Garrett Roush, Cameron Roush, Caleb Roush, Cassie Roush, Caylie Roush, Micah Roush, Isaiah Roush, Haper Pearman and one on the way; a sister, Helen McDowell and husband Jimmy of Terre Haute; and a brother, Billy Roush and wife Joyce of Vermillion, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Ruth VanPatten Roush, who passed away in 1978; and his second wife, Marty Mertens who passed away in 2011; a daughter, Roberta Roush Pearman; one sister, Nadine Roush Kennedy; three brothers, Art Roush, Charles Roush, and Delbert Roush; and three grandsons.  

Clarence was a member of Barbour Avenue Church, in Terre Haute, where he was baptized at the age of 79, The West Vigo Lions Club, and Herb Club of Terre Haute. Clarence enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping, talking and visiting with family and friends, cooking, baking birthday cakes for the family and adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, April, 19, 2014, in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bob Roush officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday. Military services will be conducted by the American Legion Post 104. According to his wishes cremation was chosen. Burial of ashes will be at a later date in Pleasantview Cemetery.
