Edward ‘Bud’ McCammon

TERRE HAUTE — Edward “Bud” McCammon, 89, of Terre Haute, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014. He was born June 28, 1924, in Sullivan, to Esther (Anderson) and John McCammon.

His beloved wife of 63 years, Ilagene “Genie” McCammon, went ahead of him nearly two years ago. Other family members who preceded him in death were his parents; his brother, Jack McCammon; his niece, LaDonna Kay McCammon (11); and his brothers and sisters-in-law, Glen (Ruby) Kirchner, Samuel (Martha) Kirchner, and Charlotte (Winston) Baker.

Bud graduated from Sullivan High School and moved to Terre Haute when he married Genie in 1948. Most of his working career was with the Royal Crown Bottling Company, but his lifetime love was music. He began playing the banjo at the tender age of 4, and won a music contest in Terre Haute when he was 5 years old. Little Buddy and his brother Jack played and sang together from childhood into adulthood.

In Terre Haute he joined the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Singing in America (S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A.). For many years, he was one of the Four Flushers, a comedy barbershop quartet that sang together all over the country. His musical life came full circle a few years ago when he was inducted into the Wabash Valley Musicians Hall of Fame.

He is survived by his two children, Brenda and Mark; his son-in-law, Bruce Tap; his beloved grandchildren, Bethany, Kathleen and Nathaniel Tap; his brother and sisters in-law, William (Pat) Kirchner, Nancy Selsam, Patricia (Lynch) Kirchner and Norma (Minger) McCammon; as well as many devoted and loving nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Brandy Davidson and her son, Kane, for helping with Bud’s care in the last few years.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, in Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th St., in Terre Haute, with visitation from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014. Online condolences may be made at: www.greinerfuneralhomes.com
