Frederick M. Stewart

ROCKVILLE — ROCKVILLE — Frederick M. Stewart, 83, of Rockville, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, at Methodist Hospital, in Indianapolis. He was born May 10, 1930, in Carmel, to Ross and Mildred Johnson Stewart. He married Mary Jane Wood on May 21, 1950, and she survives.

He worked at Eli Lilly in Lafayette for eight years, where he used his love of cooking, before being called into the ministry. He retired as a minister with the Western Yearly Meeting of Friends. Locally, he served the following churches: Bloomingdale Friends Meeting; Coloma Friends Meeting; Marshall Federated Church; and Tangier-Rush Creek Friends Meeting.

He graduated from Westfield High School and attended George Fox College in Newburg, Ore. He was a member of the Bloomingdale Friends Meeting and Covered Bridge Antique Power Club. Fred enjoyed his family and grandchildren, restoring old tractors and carving. He was raised on a farm and continued to enjoy helping his sons and grandchildren raise hogs.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Stewart of Rockville; three sons, Steve (Robin) Stewart and Kevin (Janice) Stewart, all of Marshall, Ind., and Brian Stewart of Rockville; one brother, Morris (Jean) Stewart of Syracuse; eight grandchildren,  Heather (Brian) Emery, Kelsey Furlow, Renee (Dylan) Lambermont, Kyle (Stephanie) Stewart, Lindsey (John) Helm, Brianna (Andrew) Hodge, Tiernay Stewart, and Kendra Stewart; nine great-grandchildren, Alexandra Emery, Jacqueline Emery, Jenna Lambermont, Juliet Lambermont, Ethan Furlow, Madeline Furlow, Bella Hodge, Lillian Inglesbe, and Serenity Helm. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son; and two brothers, John and Warren Stewart.

Funeral service will be Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Bloomingdale Friends Meeting, in Bloomingdale, with Pastor Kathie Luethje and Sister Betty Hopf officiating. Burial is in Poplar Grove Cemetery, Marshall. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014, at Barnes and Rice Funeral Home, in Rockville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 5635 W. 96th St., Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN 46278 or Bloomingdale Friends Meeting, P.O. Box 186, Bloomingdale, IN 47832.
