Catherine Ruby (Dickerson) (Bemis) Johnson

JASONVILLE — Catherine Ruby (Dickerson) (Bemis) Johnson, 91, passed away on Friday, June 20, 2014, at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. Catherine was born in Linton, on April 16, 1923, the daughter of Thomas and Harriet (Tribell) Dickerson.

Catherine was a lifelong resident of Jasonville and graduated from Jasonville High School class of 1941. Catherine married the love of her life Howard Johnson on Sept. 7, 1946. Catherine enjoyed many hobbies such as sewing, ceramics, gardening, reading and listening to music. She had a very full life raising five children. After retirement Catherine and Howard enjoyed spending their winters in North Fort Myers, Fla. They owned a home in Horizon Village. Catherine loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, plus walking with her dogs.

 Catherine was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Paul Bemis, in December 1942; Howard Johnson, her husband of 67 years, in November 2013; a son, Roger Johnson; and four brothers, Johnny, Thomas, Herschel, and James Dickerson.

 Catherine will be greatly missed by her daughters, Paula (Bemis) and Don Reed of Fort Wayne, Cathy (Johnson) and Bob Gorby of Terre Haute, and Nancy (Johnson) and Bob Padgett of Jasonville; son, Derry Johnson of Bloomington; daughter-in-law, Becky (Schantz) Johnson of Spencer; 13 grandchildren, Anne and Ron McRae, Amy Krieder, Chris and Fayanne Reed, Gordon and Tammy Reed, James and Jenny Reed, Rachel and Joe Loeffel, Richard and Jenny Johnson, Catherine and Allen Arney, Erin McCammon, Jessica and Jason Bell, Audrey and Trent Myers, Emily and Matt Mejean; 24 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Marion Dickerson of Louisville, Ky., and Guy Dickerson of Clay City; her two loving dogs, Otis and Priceless; and special family friend and companion, Mary Strange.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be held in her garden at her home at 15140 W 500 N, Jasonville, for family and friends on Tuesday June 24, 2014, at 1 p.m. With a meal following the services. The Rev. Rick Swan officiating the service with family sharing memories and stories. Arrangements are under the direction of Simple Cremations and Burials.
