Jerry Brent Parkins, 78, of Brazil, died June 17, 2014, at home, with his family by his side, following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Jerry was born in Brazil, Feb. 17, 1936, the son of Paul E. Parkins and Vivian (Morlan) Parkins. His family moved to Algona, Iowa, where he graduated high school in 1954. Graduating, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served until 1958. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Brazil, and was employed with CBS Records in Terre Haute. While in high school and the Navy he excelled in wrestling. While still in the Navy he won many medals and trophies and once made it to the Olympic tryouts. In August 1960, he was united in marriage to the former Ruby Angela Nichols.
In 1972 he was transferred to Nashville, Tenn., where the family lived for 39 years. They returned to Brazil, on May 13, 2011.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Jerry Parkins; and two sister, Gretta Leigh Parkins and Linda Lue Sylvester.
He is survived by his wife, Angie; two daughters, Melissa Albright and husband Chad and Pamela Penuel; four grandchildren, Angela Raine, Alex Raine, Emily Crews and husband Tyler, and Jarrett Penuel; four great-grandchildren, Lexa, Liam, June and Willa; three sisters, Bettyanne Richardson, Paula Nichols and husband Maynard, and Sinda Parkins Berge; as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends who will never forget him.
Service will be at French Funeral Home, 421 East National Ave., in Brazil, Friday, June 20, 2014, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Jeff Bridgewater officiating. Burial will follow at Clearview Cemetery in Brazil.
