Alice Dickey Goldberg

Alice Dickey Goldberg, 95, of Dundas, Ontario, Canada and formerly of Terre Haute passed away Monday, April 7, 2014 in Dundas. She was born May 6, 1918 in Terre Haute to Mr. and Mrs. Harry Spence Dickey.

Alice is survived by her beloved daughter, Mary Dickey Goldberg of Dundas, Ontario, Canada. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David Goldberg; twin sister, Mary Dickey Masterton; and her brothers-in-law, George Bradford Dearing (while serving in World War II) and George A. Masterton.

Alice was a graduate of Tudor Hall (1936) in Indianapolis, Indiana, and Simmons College (1940) in Boston, Massachusetts. In 1940, Alice moved to New York City where she worked for The Macmillan Company, Campbell-Ewald Advertising Agency, and the New York office of Norwood Press, Norwood, Massachusetts. While in New York City, Alice was a weekly volunteer reading to the blind, and assisting in several military canteens during World War II.

In 1947, Alice married David Goldberg and moved to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.  In Hamilton, Alice was on the fundraising committee for the building campaign for the MacNab Street Y.W.C.A. She was a volunteer for the ENOC program at the Robert Land School. She also taught English to new Canadians, and for thirty years she was a volunteer with the CNIB (Canadian National Institute for the Blind). Alice served on the Boards of the CNIB and the Junior League.

In keeping with Alice’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A graveside service for Alice is scheduled for 9:00 A.M. Thursday, May 22, 2014 in Highland Lawn Cemetery, Terre Haute, with Reverend Jimmy Moore of Centenary United Methodist Church, officiating. After a wonderful and fulfilling life, Alice will once more be “Back Home Again in Indiana”. Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street.
