Jack Norman Vicars

TERRE HAUTE — Jack Norman Vicars, 82, of West Terre Haute, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday evening, May 21, 2013, in his residence with his family by his side. He retired from Wabash Fiber Box in 1992, after 43 years of service. He also more recently retired from Hulman Center, where he was one of the original ushers to start working there when it first opened. He was born June 24, 1930, in West Terre Haute, the same house where he had lived his whole life and raised his family.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Joanna Brimley Vicars, whom he married May 1, 1951; their children, Deborah Joan Veach and husband Alan of Clark Center, Ill., Jeffrey Scott Vicars and wife Kristina of West Terre Haute, Kay Baldomero and husband Rick of West Terre Haute, and Rob Heramb, who was like a son to Jack and  Joanna; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer Ann Deal and husband Kevin, Stacey Jo Gallagher, Angela Marie Jones and husband Tim, Michael Ray Verdeyen, Billie Joan Boone, Jedidiah Jeffrey Vicars, Jacob Scott Vicars, Brandi Leigh Jones and husband Eric, Lucas Matthew Collins, and Joshua Veach; 15 great-grandchildren, Kaycee Porter, Matt Porter, and Shawn Porter, Laurana Boone, Harry Smith, Sarah Jean Gallagher, Austin Gallagher, Sadie Gallagher, Zachary Jones, Preston Jones, Valerie Renee Boone, Jack Vincent Boone, Jaden Sky Collins, Jove Avery Collins, and Dalten Jones. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He was a member of St. George Episcopal Church, in West Terre Haute. He had been an avid runner and tri-athlete for many years and had once qualified for the Ironman Competition. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, trap shooting and was an avid gardener.

Resurrection Mass for Jack will be 11 a.m. Saturday in St. George Episcopal Church, 1337 N. Smith Place, West Terre Haute, with the Revs. Michele Roos and Jack Brockman officiating. Burial will be in Bethesda Memorial Park. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, and prior to services Saturday, in Fitzpatrick Funeral home, 220 N. 3rd St., West Terre Haute. Friends are welcome to join the family at the funeral home Saturday morning and travel in procession to the church for Mass.
