Mary Lee Turner

TERRE HAUTE — Mary Lee Turner, 93, passed away at 11:20 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013, at Vermillion Convalescent Center, in Clinton. Mary Lee was born in Grahams Chapel, W. Va., on Oct. 22, 1920, to Nelson and Cleva McClaugherty. She was the only girl with two older brothers, Bob and Joe, and two younger brothers, Bud and Jack Moore.

Mary Lee graduated from Hinton High School in 1939, and married Robert D. Turner (Dan) in October of that year; at the time of his death in 2000 they had been married 60 years. She had two children, Carol and Bob. Once her children were both in school, she worked at Rose Jewelry. She was active in Order of the Eastern Star and she and Dan were worthy matron and patron in the Princeton Chapter. She was a member of Pisgah Methodist Church and taught the primary children’s class for years. Mary Lee lived in the mountains of West Virginia and was a “Mountaineer” for 84 years. In 2005 she moved to the Wyndmoor, in Terre Haute, and later VCC in Clinton. She enjoyed being a “Hoosier” and often said, “I have a lot of friends here and know some very special people.”

Mary Lee is survived by a daughter, Carol Turner of Terre Haute; a son, Bob (Susan) Turner of Philadelphia; two grandchildren, Beth (Jon) Santilli, and Jill (Pavel) Ortinski; and five great-grandchildren, Megan and Allison Santilli and Elliot, Max, and Emma Ortinski.

Graveside services for the interment of her cremains will be at a later date in Princeton, W. Va. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or Pisgah United Methodist Church, in Princeton, W. Va. The family deeply appreciates the caring efforts of the VCC Expressions Unit. DeBaun Funeral Homes and Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements. Online condolences may be left at:
