Penny Ann Mason Dennis, age 54, died peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, in Union Hospital, after a brief illness. Penny was born in Crawfordsville, the daughter of John and Eulalia Mason.
At an early age she learned to embroider and her dad taught her how to bowl. She attended school in the Montgomery school system in Crawfordsville and continued her educational journey at Indiana State University. She graduated from Indiana State University with a bachelor’s degree in therapeutic recreation. She received an associate’s degree in medical coding from Indiana Business College. She was employed at the former Vigo County Home and Union Hospital in the transitional care and therapy departments. Family and friends were Penny’s passion and delight. Penny thoroughly enjoyed her “fur babies,” her cats and her dogs.
On Oct. 29, 1994, she married the love of her life, Randy Dennis, in Terre Haute. They celebrated 18 years of marriage.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; brother, John; and niece, Beth Ann.
Penny is survived by the love of her life, husband Randy; her loving daughter, Natasha Hurtt; sisters, Peggy (Richard) DeClue, and Mary Ann (Bert) Rennick; special niece, Shauna; nieces, Michelle (Von), Sally, Trudy, Sherry and Terry; nephews, Craig and John; special son, Brandon Simmons; godsons, Zachary and Philip Lewis; goddaughter, Juanita Lewis; sister-in-law, Teresa (Jeff) Young; brother-in-law, Gerald (Robyn) Dennis; a host of great nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at Bethlehem Temple Church, 1432 South 13th St., in Terre Haute, at 7 p.m., with District Elder J. Glenn Purnell, officiating. Online condolences may be left at:
