TERRE HAUTE —
The Rev. Clarence Nelson Tyler, 86, transitioned from earth to glory on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at his residence in the presence of his loving family. He was born Nov. 4, 1926, in Burnett, to Joseph and Nellie Redmon Tyler. He retired from the former Terre Haute Malleable Co. He was the former pastor of the Highland Missionary Baptist Church for 25 years retiring in 2005. He was a World War II veteran.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Willa Mumford Tyler; one son, Dwight; one daughter, Winifred Gilbert; one brother, Joseph; and two sisters, Charlotte Myers and Hilda Tyler.
He is survived by his children, the Rev. Ronald Tyler (Dedra) of Terre Haute, Melody Jones (Leland) of Dallas, Clarice Cheeks (the Rev. Melvin) of Louisville, Ky., Dimple Tyler (Ben) of Los Angeles, Leslie Baynard of Greencastle, and Burton Tyler (Yolanda) of Cedar Hill, Texas; two sisters, Geneva Rosemary Tyler and Beverly Franklin of Indianapolis; six brothers, Otis Tyler (Phyllis) of Indianapolis, Bishop Sherman Tyler (Alice) of Duncan, Okla., Herschel Tyler (Mary) of Indianapolis, Russell Tyler (Suzzette) of Charlotte, N.C., Ralph Tyler (Jessie) of Indianapolis, and Emmitt Tyler (Debra) of Terre Haute; 17 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren; one aunt, Jennie Louise Stewart; special friend, Edythe Washington; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at Saints Home Church of God in Christ, 2210 N. 131⁄2 St., with the Rev. Charles Irvin officiating. Burial will be at Stewart Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., at Highland Missionary Baptist Church, 2851 N. 131⁄2 St. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Vigo County Color Guard.
