Charles F. Oricks

BRAZIL — Charles F. “Chuck” Oricks, 64, of Brazil, formerly of West Terre Haute passed away at 2:45 p.m. Thursday, April 4, 2013, in his residence. He was born Nov. 11, 1948, in Terre Haute.

Survivors include his wife, Dana Kirk Oricks; a son, Charles Oricks Jr. and wife Kristine of Tennessee; two stepdaughters, Sara Neier and fiancé Josh Thomas of Brazil, and Leslie Watts of Terre Haute; a stepson, J.D. Miller and wife Rose of Staunton; very special aunt and uncle, who were like mom and dad to him, Chester and Norma Gabbard of Terre Haute; a sister, Sandy Jones and husband LaVerne of Bedford; a brother, Donald Stuck of Miami, Ind.; special cousins, who were like sisters, Rose Garner and husband John, and Debbie Adamson and husband Chuck, all of Terre Haute; an uncle and aunt, William and Darlene Oricks of Terre Haute; seven stepgrandchildren, Melanie and Hope, Kaitlyn Miller, Dillon Miller, Michaela Allen, Kylie Watts, and Garrett Watts; his mother-in-law, Judy Via of Texas; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lisa and Joe Petrowski of Texas; several nieces and nephews; numerous cousins; and his two dogs, Abby and Toby.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Jane Oricks; his grandparents, William and Rose Oricks; and his father-in-law, Merlin Kirk.

 He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He attended Community Missionary Church, in Brazil. He loved fishing, hunting, and mushroom hunting. He was a self taught musician and was well known in the area for his guitar playing. The last band that he was a member of prior to his illness, called the Silver Nickel Band, often played music at Pizza City, in Terre Haute.

Funeral services for Chuck will be 1 p.m. Monday, in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, with Earl Rodgers officiating. Burial will be in Bethesda Memorial Park. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, and 12 noon until service time Monday. The family kindly suggests that in lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Clay County Humane Society, P.O. Box 277, Brazil, IN 47834, or with envelopes available in the funeral home.
