Alyce Muree Burkett, age 85, of Kokomo, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2014, in Nashville, Ind. Alyce was born March 10, 1929, in Indianapolis, to parents, Gladys Marie Jones (Bryant) and Clarence “Pete” Cornell. She was raised in Burnett, Ind., by her grandmother, Margaret “Maggie” Shepler, and relished the colorful memories of that childhood. She was married to Jack William Burkett, Feb. 7, 1949, husband of 52 years, and he preceded her in death.
Alyce was very proud of her 10-year career as a teaching assistant in Kokomo. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and family. During the Korean Conflict, she operated computers for Bank of America in San Francisco, while her husband Jack was at sea in the Navy (World War II and Korean Conflict veteran). Alyce loved to read and enjoyed yard work. She relished the many winters that she spent in Florida.
Alyce is survived by her sons, Bill Burkett and his wife Yvonne Burkett of Mount Carmel, Ill., and Jeff Burkett of Minneapolis, Minn.; daughter, Jane Feller, and her husband Tony Feller of Bloomington, Ind.; sisters, Jennifer Cruze and Sue Ellen O’Neil of Terre Haute; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She also was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Cornell.
Services will be held Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St., in Terre Haute, with visitation from 12 noon until 2 p.m. Funeral services will be 2 p.m.
