Woodrow W. West

LINTON — Woodrow W. West, 85, of Linton, Ind., passed away at 10:50 a.m. Thursday, March 27, 2014, in his residence.

He was born April 26, 1928, in Jasonville, Ind., to Orval West and Flossie (Raley) West.

Survivors include his companion, Gertrude Lockhart of Linton; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Nan West of Jasonville; stepdaughter, Wanda and Tom Miller of Jasonville; son-in-law, Tommy G. and Sharon Grodotzke of Texas; grandchildren, Dustin and Kindra West, Kyle West and Angela, Heather Grounds, Gary and Darla Miller, Gene and Mary Miller, Amy and Wes Scarborough, Tammy Canada Fish, Jeff and Christy Grodotzke, Danny and Stephanie Grodotzke, and Michael G. Grodotzke; several great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Annalee Walls of Linton and Betty West of Linton; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Norma June West, in 1987; stepdaughter, Rita Grodotzke; stepson, Cale (Sonny) Griffith Jr.; brothers, infant Marshall J. West and Walter West; great-grandson, Wyatt DeJesus; and stepsisters, Ruby Harmon and Eunice Heicken.

Woodrow had worked as a welder at Peabody-Hawthorne Mine for 25 years, and Allison’s Factory in Indianapolis, and was an Indianapolis policeman for six years. He was a member of the Summerville Church of Christ and the U.M.W.A. He enjoyed fishing, camping, mushroom hunting, pitching horseshoes and playing golf. He was a World War II Navy veteran. Woodrow had previously lived in Florida for years.

Arrangements are entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home, 218 S. Meridian St., Jasonville, Ind., with visitation scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. until the 2 p.m. service time Tuesday at the Funeral Home. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at the Cox Funeral Home, with Pastor Mark Messmer officiating.

Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Linton, Ind., with military graveside rites.
