TERRE HAUTE —
Stanley Warren Smith, 90, of Terre Haute, passed away on Jan. 25, 2013, at Regional Hospital. He was born Aug. 28, 1922, the son of Ira Truman and Ora (Tresner) Smith. Stanley graduated from Brazil High School. Following high school, he enlisted into the U.S. Army, where he served as a paratrooper. He retired from General Motors where he tested diesel engines in the Electro-motive division. He married Roberta June Martin in 1986.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, in Brazil. In his spare time he took great interest in reading western books and listening to older country music. Stanley really enjoyed watching baseball games and playing golf.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and three brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Roberta June (Martin) Smith of Terre Haute; son, Daniel Smith (Melody) of Colorado; grandchildren, Leah Gilliland, and Amber Brown (Tony); great-grandchildren, Madison Gilliland, Mallory Gilliland, Trevor Brown, Taylor Brown; sisters, Genevieve Blair and Berniece Lincoln; as well as several nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends.
Services will be Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at 1 p.m., at French Funeral Home, in Brazil. Burial will follow at Rockville Memory Gardens, where the U.S. Army will have military honors. Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, from 11 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to VNA Hospice of Wabash Valley, 400 Eighth Ave., Terre Haute, IN 47804.
