TERRE HAUTE —
Raymond Earl “Big Ray” Smith, 66, of Terre Haute, passed away at 7:53 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital.
He was born Sept. 30, 1946, in Terre Haute, to Walter Smith and Mary Brownfield Fucone.
“Big Ray” served in the United States Army and was a Vietnam War Veteran. He was the owner of Big Ray’s Used Furniture. He enjoyed yard sales, auctions, video games and sports, especially the Colts. He also enjoyed riding on his golf cart. “Big Ray” loved taking care of his grandchildren and loved his dog, Shadow.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Billy J. Smith and Randy Smith; and sister, Peggy J. Smith.
“Big Ray” is survived by his stepfather, Tony Fucone; son, Randy “Poe” Smith and his wife, Angie, of Terre Haute; daughters, Stephanie Smith and her husband, Rick, and Shannon Smith Snodgrass and her husband, Joe, all of Terre Haute. He is also survived by a brother, Jerry L. Smith; sisters, Flora Beddow of Lafayette, Linda Mix, Mary McKenzie, Joan Laycock, all of Terre Haute, and Cindy Westerfield of North Dakota, and very good friend and sister-in-law, June Smith; and his grandchildren, Victoria, Austin, Kaylee, Savannah, Hunter and Kayden.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2013 at Highland Lawn Cemetery Chapel, 4420 E. Wabash Ave., Terre Haute, with visitation from 12:30 p.m. until service time in the chapel. Pastor Billy Joe Henry will be officiating; burial will be in Highland Lawn Cemetery Soldiers Circle. VFW Post 972 will conduct military services.
