Leslie Eugene ‘Gene’ Stanifer


JASONVILLE — Leslie Eugene “Gene” Stanifer, of Jasonville, passed away in Terre Haute Regional Hospital on Friday, June 28, 2013. Gene was born Oct. 11, 1928, in Shelburn, to Drue and Suda Hayes Stanifer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Emmalee Stanifer Holmes Angell; and a brother, Paul Stanifer.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Betty Wells Stanifer; daughters, Leslie Stultz (Jim), Patty Ransford (Tony), Barbara Waller (Jack), and Darcy Cosner (Harry); a brother, Don Stanifer (Donna); six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Gene was a veteran of the Korean War, one time owner operator of the Dairy Queens in Sullivan and Farmersburg,  an avid “IU” fan, and attended school in Hymera.

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 2, 2013, from 4 until 8 p.m. in Holmes Memorial Chapel of Sullivan. Services will be Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Mel Jackaway officiating. Interment will follow at Westlawn Cemetery in Farmersburg. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice in Gene’s honor.
