TERRE HAUTE —
Ralph King, 63 of Gary, Ind., and formerly of Terre Haute, departed this life on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at Methodist Hospital Northlake. He was born on June 20, 1950, in Columbiana, Ala., to the late Charlie and Naomi King Sr. He grew up in Gary. He graduated from Roosevelt High School class of 1968. Ralph attended Indiana State University in Terre Haute. He was a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. Ralph taught at Jefferson Elementary School in Gary. Ralph was previously employed at Terre Haute Housing Authority, General Housewares Corporation, and Sodexho Dining Services in Terre Haute.
He is survived by his beloved daughters, Ariane (Todd) Detamore, Meagan King of Terre Haute and Jordan King of Indianapolis; the mother of his children, Leslie R. King of Terre Haute; his sisters, Beverly Smith of Gary, Sandra Fay (Otha) Gill of Gary, Naomi (Hubert) Vinson of Merrillville, Alma Jean (Glen) Polk of Merrillville, and Patricia (Anthony) Ballard of Dyer; brothers, Charlie (Mary) King Jr. of Gary, Lorenzo (Arlene) King of Hanson, Ky., Alphonzo King of Gardena, Calif., Donald Benny (Barbara) King of Gary; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Ralph was dearly loved by his family. He was a joy to be around and will be missed by all.
Visitation is today, Aug. 29, 2013, from 12 noon to 8 p.m. Family hours 6 to 8 p.m. at Guy & Allen Chapel, 2959 West 11th Avenue, in Gary. Funeral services will be Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, at 11 a.m. at New Hope M.B. Church, 2307 Rhode Island Street, in Gary. Minister Daniel Baker Officiating. Interment Oak Hill Cemetery.
