James Boor

BRAZIL — James “Jim” Boor, 83, of Brazil, passed away April 7, 2014, at Regional Hospital, in Terre Haute, following a lengthy illness. Jim was born Jan. 10, 1931, in Brazil, the son of Albert and Mildred (Stark) Boor. He graduated from Brazil High School with the class of 1949. He was a letterman in basketball for four years, he played football and track and won the Pell award his junior year and the Keller award his senior year. Jim worked with his father-in-law, Fred Schultz at Fred's Market for 28 years, then he purchased the business in 1980 when Fred retired. He owned and operated the business from 1980 to 1999, when he retired due to health reasons.

Jim served on the Clay County Council for eight years and was a member of the YMCA board of directors. He was a member of the Brazil Elks for 56 years, where Jim enjoyed telling stories and the fellowship of all his friends. Jim was well known for his appetite and his selection of food and recipes that he shared with his family and friends.

Jim's family will greatly miss all of his sporting stories and knowledge. Jim had an amazing memory in recalling faces and names. He would often surprise his family by striking up a conversation with past friends that he hadn't seen for many years just like he saw them yesterday. He was a man who found enjoyment in life's simple pleasures and always tried to make the best of any situation. He deeply valued his friends and family and always put their wants and needs first.

He is survived by his wife, Yvonne (Schultz) Boor, whom he married April 1, 1950; two daughters, Kathy Knust and husband Mike, and Jamie Maurer and husband Kenny, all of Brazil; a son, Jim Boor and wife Phyllis of Newburgh; grandchildren, Jason Maurer and wife Amie of Brazil, Heather Mitchell and husband Todd of Independence, Ky., Keily Miller and husband Chad of Brazil, Ashley Cook and husband Andy of Newburgh, Megan Manente and husband Nick of Newburgh and Michael Knust and wife Ashley of Brazil; great-grandchildren, Drew, Sydney, Mallory, Zoey, Halle, Aubrey, Kowen, Keaton, Kampbell, Aden, Dakota and Brantley; brothers and sisters, Phyllis Milner and husband Walter of Rockville, Janet Pearce and husband Edward of Brazil, and Philip Boor and wife Bonnie of Brazil; brother-in-law Michael Call; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
