Barbara Ann Wright Martin

MARSHALL, Ill. — June 8, 1925-Nov. 28, 2013

Barbara Ann (Wright) Martin, 88, of Marshall, passed away at 11:50 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28, 2013, at Providence Health Care, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Ind. Barbara was born in Paris, Ill., the daughter of  Art and Opal Wright. She was the oldest of three sisters. Barbara attended MacMurray College, and earned her bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University. She married the love of her life, Paul Martin on July 19, 1947. He preceded her in death on March 6, 2002.

She was active in Marshall First United Methodist Church, Marshall Art League, P.E.O, American Legion Auxiliary, Burnsides Guild, and the Garden Club. Barbara also served as a leader in both Girl Scouts and 4-H for many generations. She was the bookkeeper for the family business, Martin Drug Store. She loved life, and her family. Her quick wit will be remembered by her family and all who met her.

Barbara is survived by her sister, Jacque (John) Weberg of Scottsdale, Ariz.; her three daughters, Debora (Tony) Katauskas of Goodyear, Ariz., Susan Anderson (Alan) of Charleston, Ill., and Amy (Mario) Garza of Portland, Ore.; her two grandchildren, Brent (Stephanie) Katauskas of Austin, Texas, and Sara (Rod) Garza of Phoenix; her three great-grandchildren, Ellie and Kane Garza and A.J. Katauskas; as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Patt Shafer.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at the Villas of HollyBrook and to the staff at Providence Health Care on the campus of  Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.  

The family is planning a celebration of life to be held at a later date. For those who wish, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Marshall, Marshall Gaslight Art Colony, or Sisters of Providence at St. Mary-of-the-Woods.
